Will instruct and lead the World Skills Schools.
EM Eyes
The Ophthalmic Emergencies Skill School will integrate Slit Lamp Exam with Ophthalmic Ultrasound to efficiently train delegates on Neuroophthalmological Examination of the Eye and Management of Trauma to the Eye. Surgical Procedures such as Removal of Foreign Body, Lateral Canthotomy and Eye Lid Suturing will also be taught in this advanced Skill School
URO EM
The Urological Emergencies Skill School will integrate education and hands on training on tackling various Urological Emergencies such as genital trauma, Urinary Retention, Suprapubic Catheterization, Difficult Foley, Priapism Drainage and Testicular Detorsion. Management of Genital Trauma and Urological Emergencies across all genders and populations will be addressed including emergencies with congenital genital anomalies.
Fund EM
It’s all about the Money. This Unique Skills School address critical areas of fund raising for research and innovation for ideas, projects and experiments. Focus on Ideas generation, documentation, implementation and analysis will be covered. Writing a detailed proposal plan and operational functioning of the plan will be training modules which will be vital to the innovators of tomorrow.
CRISIS Leadership
Already Overcrowded Emergency Departments can be seriously compromised if disaster strikes and super overloads already overloaded departments. Patient safety is at dire risk hence all hospitals are mandated to have disaster plans. Well, to create plans, implement them and modify them, we need leaders. For being a Disaster Management Leader, you need Crisis Leadership Skills (CLS). These are special skills which are studded by capacities to make split second administrative decisions on multiple issues simultaneously on a macro scale. The Crisis Leadership Skills School will educate leaders of the future on making those lifesaving operational decisions at the time of disasters.
EMCM
Emergency Mass Casualty Medicine School: Steered by the Knowledge acquired from First-Hand Experience of Mass Casualty Medical Management, WACEM Experts will focus on key medical skills needed to manage critically injured and ill patients during disasters and violent events. A combination of WARTIME Medicine and CIVILIAN DISASTER Medicine skills, the EMCM Skills School is a phenomenal opportunity for learners to advance their skills in action interventions for saving victims with injuries. Thinking STAT and Thinking SMART are both elements of success in such situations and the experts are available to enrich those skills.
DAIR SCOPE
Bronchoscopy and Difficult Airway are siblings in arms. Difficulty Airway in Emergency Medicine has become a major challenge across resuscitation corridors of the world. Migration of population, Obesity and increasing allergies and trauma create a huge field for difficult airways to soon become a common place occurrence. Avoiding Respiratory Failure mediated cardiac arrest and efficiently placing a non-surgical airway using skills and adjuncts in awake as well as sedated patients are skills which every Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Surgery needs to have across all ages and scenarios. It is Not that easy that is why the skills school is called difficulty airway.
ResusciTECHO
Resuscitation Transesophageal Echocardiography and Transthoracic Echocardiography have been a game-changing intervention which guides early diagnosis and management of major presentations to emergency departments such as patients with pericardial effusion or tamponade, or massive pulmonary embolism with right heart strain, among others. These are differentials which historically posed the challenge of delays in imaging with serious consequences in administering timely interventions. While we do not need to become expert echocardiographers, POCUS guided echo in EM is an important adjunct to add to our repertoire of skills as recognized by the global community of emergency clinicians. Our team of emergency medicine experts teach you a systemic approach for bedside Trans-Echocardiography in Resuscitation.
RETHOTOMY in TRAUMA
REBOA & Emergent Thoracotomy are procedures performed in the Emergency Department for patients with serious intrathoracic & Intrabdominal injuries. There are few situations and indications where these procedures are performed in patients with TAP trauma, intended for direct visualization and temporizing measures such as decompression of traumatic pericardial tamponade and hemorrhage control. These lifesaving procedures in the ED might very well be a life-saving intervention allowing the patient to survive to theatre for definitive management. In this workshop, you will learn the indications, relevant anatomy, and steps to perform Emergent Thoracotomy & REBOA in Emergency Medicine Departments.
PTRM Skills
The Pediatric Trauma Resuscitation Module (PTRM) was developed as a part of the Indian Council of Medical Research ICMR project to promote the use of evidence-based practice in the early identification of life-threatening events and timely management of pediatric trauma patients. The PTRM Skills School will specifically focus on Pediatric Trauma Management Skills with plenty of hands on training opportunities.
EN Block & VasculoPOCUS
This novel skills school teaches the basics of emergency nerve blocks using POCUS. The skills school will cover POCUS physics, anatomy, image interpretation, and needle guidance techniques to perform Emergency nerve blocks for opioid sparing pain control. Additionally, POCUS Guided DVT Rule out and Intravenous cum Central Venous Access and Arterial Access will also be taught.
Skills Mela
THE APEX SHOCK SKILLS CARNIVAL
WACEM along with INDUSEM along with the Emergency Medicine Association in India, and Academic College of Emergency Experts in India developed a novel Shock Resuscitation Training Program to address the need for an approach to shocked patients presenting to the emergency department.
Shock presents with symptoms and signs with significant overlap despite resulting from a variety of etiologies. There are courses which focus on specific etiologies such as trauma resuscitation courses, or cardiac resuscitation courses. Further, these are conducted differently for adult and pediatric patients. These courses, thereby, have significant overlap of information.
There was a lack of a unifying approach to resuscitation in shock, particularly where etiologies coexist. For instance, managing a patient with polytrauma following a stroke while driving, or a fall down a flight of stairs following an MI. As EM clinicians, we are expert resuscitationists. This program focuses on understanding the concepts of resuscitation, with two components.
- Online Shock Resuscitation Theory
- Skills Mela (focuses on practical skills)
The Online Shock Resuscitation Theory will need to be completed prior to attending the Skills Mela practical component and requires separate registration on the online portal.
The Skills Mela focuses solely on the practical skills applicable in resuscitation scenarios. This is conducted during the WACEM2025 conference, with the expectation that candidates will have completed the theory component prior to attendance.
Please visit the conference registration page for further details on the registration process for both components.
